Pardon Application Guide

A pardon allows people who were convicted of a criminal offence, but have completed their sentence and demonstrated they are law-abiding citizens for a prescribed number of years, to have their criminal record kept separate and apart from other criminal records.

Under the Criminal Records Act (CRA), the National Parole Board (NPB) may issue, grant, deny, or revoke pardons for convictions under federal acts or regulations of Canada.

Stalking is a crime called criminal harassment (2003)

Criminal harassment is a crime in Canada. It is harassing behaviour that includes stalking. This 20-page document explains what type of behaviour counts as criminal harassment and what victims can do to better protect themselves. This booklet is available for download on the Department of Justice website which also has resources for immigrant and refugee women who are suffering from abuse in a relationship or family. The digital booklet entitled "Abuse is Wrong in Any Language" is available in various languages and can be downloaded and printed here.

Service Alberta oversees and enforces the laws that set out the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants in Alberta. Changes to the Residential Tenancies Act and Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act affect rent increases and the amount of notice landlords must provide. The changes are retroactive to April 24, 2007.
